How much should I feed?

How much food to feed depends on your dog’s age, activity level and body condition. Start with the lower percentage and readjust feeding amount, if necessary.

Puppies

For Puppies, feed 2-3% of their anticipated 'ideal' adult body weight. 

Healthy Dogs

Feed 2-3% of their body weight. 

Smaller dogs and very active dogs may require a higher percentage of their body weight.

Overweight Pets

Feed 1.5-2% of their body weight.

Adjust the amount again once your pet is at their ideal weight.

IMPORTANT: Every pet is unique. Please note that these are only guidelines. Please adjust the feeding percentages and amounts based on how your pet looks.

Transition to raw

Please note we recommend feeding "Gut Soothe" Pre&Probiotics & Liver Tonic for an easy transition to raw. Adding those two supplements will help prevent loose stool which sometimes occurs during a diet change.

Freeze

Keep raw pet food frozen in the freezer at -18 Degree Celsius until ready to serve.

Thaw

Thaw raw food in the fridge overnight when ready to serve. Keep raw pet food separate from other foods.

Serve

Place thawed serving into your pet's stainless steel bowl or onto their LickiMat. Bon Appetit!

Store the thawed Essential Paleo Ridge meals in a sealed, airtight container in a designated area of the fridge and use within 2 days. (Classic 80-10-10 meals should be used within 3 days)

Safe Handling Tips:

  • Raw pet food must be treated just like any other raw meat: with care. 

  • Wash all work surfaces, utensils, hands, and food bowls with hot, soapy water before and after handling raw pet food. 

  • Use a separate sponge to clean bowls and utensils that were used for raw pet food.

What is the difference between Paleo Ridge Essentials and Classic 80-10-10?

The Paleo Ridge Essential line is formulated to be complete & balanced for all life stages as per the FEDIAF guidelines. The meals contain a mix of pasture-raised meats, organs, bones, and organic vegetables. They are naturally complete & balanced which means they are 100% free of synthetic ingredients (aka "special nutrient mix"). Packaged in 500g portions. 

The classic 80-10-10 meals contain pasture-raised meats, organs, and bones, NO vegetables and NO synthetic ingredients. The classic meals are balanced over time by feeding a mixture of different recipes. Packaged in 1kg and 250g portions. Because the Classic 80-10-10 meals do not contain vegetables, they would be more suitable for pets with a history of yeast infections or ear infections as these meals will better aid in starving yeast in the body. 

How do I choose the right meal for my dog?

A balanced and nutritious raw diet must include variety. You should be aiming to feed at least 4-6 different species i.e. lamb, beef, duck, chicken, venison, turkey etc. over a 2-month period.

When feeding raw, variety is essential. Even if an individual meal is Complete & Balanced, dogs will gain different levels of nutrients from different proteins, so the wider the variety, the better.

To ensure your dog is getting everything they need, we recommend choosing a variety of complete feeds from our Classic Range of 80-10-10 complete meals and our Paleo Essentials complete meals.

If your dog has intolerances or allergies, just make sure the products you buy do not contain what they cannot have. If your dog has a history of yeast or ear infections, the Classic 80-10-10 would be more suitable in starving yeast. 

Is raw feeding safe?

Paleo Ridge raw meals are safe for you and your animal. We advise only feeding raw food from manufacturers that can prove they have high standards. This will ensure the raw food you buy has been sourced, handled, prepared and stored correctly and is safe to feed. Call and question companies before you purchase. Find a company you can trust, check for independent feedback like Google.

My vet says raw diets are bad, is this true?

Vets are medical professionals and not qualified nutritionists, therefore vets are often misinformed. Vets are subject to the same blanket advertising and sales pitches from processed food manufacturers as the buying public. The media is a very powerful tool.

Veterinarians are the only medical professionals who actively promote feeding a highly processed diet over whole food diets.
As humans, we know that highly processed foods are very bad for us, why would this be different for our four legged companions?

Studies now show adding as little as 20% raw food to dry food diets can drastically decrease disease markers in dogs. The more raw food you can feed, the healthier your animal will be.

Why are Paleo Ridge Meals mixed protein?

Single protein raw diets will not be able to meet nutritional guidelines without the addition of "special nutrient mixes". Paleo Ridge does NOT use any synthetic vitamins and minerals in order to achieve balance which means that meals will need to be mixed proteins.
